DTN Closing Grain Comments    09/17 13:51
   Friday's Grains Lower in Risk-Off Trading

   Active contracts of corn, soybeans and all three U.S. wheats closed lower
Friday -- along with nearly all other commodities on the futures board. The
December U.S. Dollar Index is trading higher, still finding support from
Thursday's higher-than-expected report of U.S. retail sales.

   GENERAL COMMENTS:

   December corn closed down 2 1/4 cents and March corn was down 2 1/2 cents.
November soybeans closed down 12 cents and March soybeans were down 11 1/2
cents. December KC wheat closed down 7 1/2 cents, December Chicago wheat was
down 4 1/4 cents and December Minneapolis wheat was down 6 cents. The December
U.S. Dollar Index is trading up 0.28 at 93.20. The Dow Jones Industrial Average
is down 169.99 points at 34,581.33. December gold is down $5.20 at $1,751.50,
December silver is down $0.43 at $22.36 and December copper is down $0.0380.
November crude oil is down $0.74 at $71.87, November heating oil is down
$0.0039, November RBOB gasoline is down $0.0081 and November natural gas is
down $0.225.
